Adapted from the Broadway version, this adaptation especially for young audiences features thirteen actors and enhanced production values. Seussical is Theatreworks USA's biggest show ever! The Cat in the Hat is the host and emcee (and all-around mischief-maker) in this romp through the Seuss classics.

AMBER BROWN IS NOT A CRAYON

December 16, 2008 at 10:30am

Amber Brown is having what may be the worst year of her life. She and Justin Daniels were the perfect team: they laughed at each other's jokes, sat next to each other in class, and stayed best friends when Justin's dad had to move away. But now things are different. Now Justin's house has been sold and he is going to Alabama; that's too far from New Jersey to think about. Told in a uniquely funny and forthright style, this story of a feisty young girl who refuses to let her problems get the better of her will touch and entertain audiences everywhere. You'll laugh and cry with Amber as she learns some valuable lessons about the virtues of patience and the meaning of friendship.

WORLD OF WONDER

Feb 19 & 20, 2009 at 10:30am

Internationally touring artist Leland Faulkner returns to Tampa with his program World of Wonder, a production that has appeared at festivals in the U.S.A, Asia, and Canada. Celebrating the international nature of physical theatre, it exemplifies the universal language of the mime, actor, and magician. The audience will see the almost forgotten art of shadowgraphy, or hand shadows, witness the amazing art of origami at high speed, see the magic in a simple handkerchief, and share the wisdom of a medieval fool. World of Wonder transports students to a place where they can see the extraordinary in the ordinary, and envision themselves as a creative force that can change the world.

March 31, 2009 at 10:30am

To young Lemuel, who has escaped slavery in Georgia, life in Gettysburg is everything he had dreamed it would be. His ideas about the North and the South, as well as what it means to be a free man, are challenged, however, when he unexpectedly befriends Jacob, a young Confederate soldier. The two men may be of different races and on different sides of the Civil War, but they have much to teach each other about bravery and loyalty in ArtsPower’s exciting and suspenseful musical.

THE COLOR OF JUSTICE

April 20, 2009 at 10:30am

Theatreworks USA proudly presents the story of a courageous young girl and a great warrior for justice, and their battle for equal rights. Our story begins in the 1950s, a time in America when signs indicating "Colored" and "White" were prominently hung on restroom doors, restaurant windows and drinking fountains. A time in America when many schools were segregated and the practice of "separate but equal" was upheld by the United States Supreme Court. Thurgood Marshall, prominent legal counsel for the NAACP, has been traveling around the country looking for families who will challenge the segregation law, who have the courage to take their lawsuits all the way to the nation's highest court. One fateful day, he arrives in Topeka looking for a family who would step forward and join the battle in the Supreme Court case Brown vs. the Board of Education. And he finds the Carter family. And so begins a battle. A battle against bigots and Klansmen. A battle against fearful friends and neighbors who want to leave well-enough alone. A battle that costs Mr. Carter his job and 8-year-old Grace Carter her best friend. But it is a battle that they ultimately win, changing their lives and the lives of black schoolchildren all over America.
